Election 2006: The Ad

Ed. Note: Felt there was enough stuff here to make it worth its own page. As usual, comments welcome at milnewstbay@yahoo.ca.

The Ad:  Video

The Ads Are Off in English Canada, But Apparently Still Running in Quebec "The National Council of Veteran Associations today issued a statement calling on the Liberal government to withdraw the TV commercial in Quebec which suggests that statements by Stephen Harper would lead to armed soldiers patrolling the streets of Canadian cities. Cliff Chadderton, Chairman of NCVA, stated that, according to his information, the offensive TV ad had been discontinued in English Canada but was continuing to be used through French television outlets." (Thanks to Joe Clayton for this tip!)

Here's What the Tories Said About Military Presence in Cities: "Providing new territorial batallions with 100 regular and at least 400 reserve force personnel each, to be prepared to respond to emergencies in Canada’s major urban areas, with battalions in the West to be stationed in the areas of Vancouver, Calgary, Regina, and Winnipeg." - CBC Coverage of This - Globe & Mail Carries Canadian Press Copy - CTV's Take on Canadian Press Copy - Sun Media's Take on Canadian Press copy

Ottawa Citizen, 16 Jan 06: "Hey, did you know that there are soldiers in Canadian cities? Soldiers. With guns. In our cities. In Canada. You did? Then you're one up on the Liberal Party of Canada, which apparently had one of the biggest brain cramps in political history when it came up with the now utterly vilified and also roundly mocked attack ad on Stephen Harper last week."
