EDITOR'S NOTE: Tracked down this reference to open source intelligence (OSINT), and found that the appendicies contained a number of good links for finding out all kinds of news and information of interest to the military. I will also be adding some of my own faves that NATO didn't know about when they produced this pam (available in .pdf here). An apparent update of the valuable tome can also be found here (1.6M, .pdf). CAVEAT: Some of the links don't work for me, so it's possible that the links are either no longer working, or only available to subscribers or via military systems. Still, lots of links to explore. As usual, all feedback welcome - tony@milnews.ca .

Below are a few of the essential references that are available online. Please note that the NATO guide Intelligence Exploitation of the Internet is also available online at the SACLANT Intelligence homepage on the NATO WAN. This publication is regularly updated with the best resources available to guide in the use search strategies and tools to exploit open sources available on the Internet. The Open Source Intelligence Proceedings include over 5,000 pages from over 500 international authorities including the (then) Director General of the International Red Cross and many other European and Asian experts, and comprise the "information commons" on the state of the art for open source intelligence.
EDITOR'S NOTE: Most of the oss.net links here don't work because the site, run by an open source int gathering business, has been reorganized, with some of the material no longer there or only available to subscribers. Still, many of the NATO links work, with interesting results.
