Hey, did you know that there are soldiers in Canadian cities?
Soldiers. With guns. In our cities. In Canada. You did? Then you're one up on
the Liberal Party of Canada, which apparently had one of the biggest brain
cramps in political history when it came up with the now utterly vilified and
also roundly mocked attack ad on Stephen Harper last week.
The voiceover on the ad says this: "Stephen Harper actually announced he
wants to increase military presence in our cities. Canadian cities. Soldiers
with guns. In our cities. In Canada. We did not make this up. Choose your
Canada."
The viewer is left with the impression that Harper's first act as prime
minister would be to declare martial law. In fact, all Harper has said is that
as part of strengthening the military in Canada, he'd like to have more
soldiers stationed in cities to aid in emergencies and natural disasters.
The ad is not only completely misleading, in the end it's an insult to our
proud men and women of the military who are admired and respected by ordinary
Canadians, not feared.
Indeed, it's obvious that the death-spiralling Liberals are so out of touch
with real Canada that no one in the party bothered to point out before the ad
was initially released that there are already plenty of soldiers in Canadian
cities -- like the rifle-toting soldiers who march up to the Hill regularly in
the summer for the Changing of the Guard. Those soldiers are valued members of
our community, and rightly so.
Strangely enough, though, the Liberals might have gotten away with this
ridiculous ad if it hadn't been for the fact that the party posted a big batch
of new TV spots on its website Tuesday and then scant hours later pulled the
one about the military, thus drawing extra attention to it.
This is the last-ditch attempt of a dead party walking to scare Canadians
into sticking with the shameless, corrupt and completely arrogant Liberals.
Will it work? We doubt it. The fact that the ads have not only been roundly
condemned but also widely mocked on the Internet with bloggers posting

parodies suggests that the Liberals have finally gone too far
in trying to demonize their opponents.
When asked for his comment on the military ad, respected retired general
Lewis MacKenzie remarked "It took my breath away; I just couldn't believe
anybody could be that dumb."
But they are.
There are Liberals that dumb.
In our cities.
We did not make this up.
